So, school starts on Monday. And for me, it is the first day of high school. I'm not sure yet how I feel about that. So, what could be better than a high school themed movie marathon this weekend?
But no Heathers, no Donnie Darko, no Carrie and stuff like that.
Only nice movies. Happy movies. Bubbly movies. (but not High School Musical bubbly)
Stuff like Mean Girls.
Or maybe not Mean Girls, because I already know every single line from that one.
So, let's see... What shall I watch?
There are John Hughes movies (the man is a freakin genius)-The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, 16 Candles, Ferris Buller's Day Off, and others.
I love his movies. I really love them. Like Olive from Easy A said: Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80's movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80's movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life.
That reminds me, I should add Easy A to the list.
There is also Dazed and Confused. Amazing movie+perfect soundtrack.
Oh, of course, American Pie and its 4657890876543556788654635456 sequels. Maybe the best teen comedy.
There is also Not Another Teen Movie, and that my dear friends, I really recomend. It is a parody, so before watching it, make sure you watch:

Yeah, I guess I'll watch most of them. And you should too.
If not, there are always Daria or Freaks and Geeks marathons, and even though they are tv series, they are pretty damn good. And the stories are about high school, and that works for me.

There are Juno and Saved, but I'm not sure I should watch them now.

Tim Burton, the famous fantsy-movie directort, and also, one of my idols, was born on this day! So who is watching a Burton movie tonight? I now I am!
I think I'm gonna go with Big Fish.

Of course, there is famous The Nightmare Before Christmas, but Burton didn't direct it, he produced it. We all know the main character, Jack Skellington, who, besides being the film protagonist, plays an important role in pop culture-you can see him everywhere, and he is also mentiond in songs Miss You by Blink-182 and Fallen Star (Blood on the Dance Floor).
But enough about Jack.
Tim also writes poems-my favorite is The Girl With Many Eyes:
One day in the park

And he also directed the video for song Bones by The KIllers.
Why, oh why, do most of the comedies these days have to be gross? And did you notice that the one(funny) can't go without the other (gross)? So there should be a thing called funny&gross scale.
You know, like Barney's hot&crazy scale.
So, for instance, most of you have seen the American Pie series. And you have to admit, all parts were really funny, but also pretty gross. Then, something more recent-Ted. We kinda knew it was gonna be both gross and hilarious, because of the Family Guy. And it sure was. But the question is- what's the deal with funny&gross scale? You see, if the movie is more gross than funny, then maybe, just maybe, it's not worth rewatching. Or recommending. Or it's simply a bad movie (well, that depends). Now, if a movie is more funny than gross, there you go, you have a great comedy worth recommending, liking on facebook, tweeting about etc. Again, it depends, but still...
And that's about it. Now here are some recent movies that I recommend, that are more funny than gross, but still kinda gross. And sorry for using the word gross a lot.
Or at least 'The Drumms' say so.
Anyway, every year we watch movies where teenagers have to go on a vacation with their parents, and they complain about it, but in the end they find one true love there/something paranormal happens.
Every year I go on a vacation with my parents hoping something will happen, but no.
And this year is not an exception. I am going to the seaside, and I am going to spend three weeks there, and die due to boredom.
So we have a lot of beach-themed movies.
'Grease' isn't one of them, but it does have that famous scene, where they meet. On the beach. An the whole movie is about, you know, 'Summer Loving', even though it is set in school- (And did you realise that 'High School Musical' is the same as 'Grease', except they meet during the winter holiday. It's also kind of Incepcion-y: musical in the musical. Nevermind.)
Then there is 'The Last Song'-Miley Cyrus refuses to spend summer with her dad, but she is forced to, and then she meets the guy.
Oh, yes, of cource, 'Killers'. The story is kind of different, but begining is the same-she goes to Nice with her parents, and she meets the guy there.
Dirty Dancing. Again, you know the story.
And I figured that 'Titanic' is kind of the same. I mean, it's not the beach, but it is a vacation. With parents.
Oh, in 'Aliens in the Attic', nobody finds a boyfriend/girlfriend, but it turns out that the house they are staying actually has aliens in the attic. Yeah, I know, the title doesn't spoil anything.
Oh well..
One day I will have a 'Eurotrip'-type of vacation. Until then...
Oh, screw that, everything is fine as long as I have internet connection.
Daria reurns to MTV tomorrow! Daria is probably the best thing on MTV ever, and I am really glad it's coming back! I think you all miss that cynical teen. The show is also really quotable!
